Big News!!

Our biggest news of the year is that we purchased a cottage this summer right by my parents cottage! We are so excited about this and still can't believe it is real. It was a bit of a process, but was so worth it. In May Ryan and I decided that we wanted to purchase a property and started actively looking for something. And to make a very long story short in late June, through an act of God, we found out that there was a property on The Retreat (where my parents are) that was maybe going to be up for sale. We called the owner and instantly made a connection with her. Ryan's and my parents were able to walk through the house that same weekend in June and sent us several pictures.

It is a 2 bedroom, 1 bath cottage.

And she was selling it fully furnished to include the boat in the garage, and the pier and raft!

We knew this was the one and thankfully we were able to agree on a price and terms. It was all a little complicated since she was in California and we were in Kuwait, but we both hired lawyers in the local area of the property and were able to work it out. Finally the day of closing approached and we were able to meet in person. Ryan had already headed back to Kuwait by this time so it was just me and the kids. But here I am with Irmgard, the lovely woman we purchased the cottage from.

We closed on the cottage on Friday August 14th, but Irmgard wanted to stay in the cottage until after the church service on Sunday. We were more than happy to grant her request since she was very emotionally attached to the cottage. Her husband had designed it and they had owned it since their children were small. Here we are with the pastor of the Chapel in the Pines.

And with the man whose parents were the original owners of the property before there was a house on it.

He now has a cottage two doors down!
On Sunday afternoon I was finally able to turn the key as the owner of OUR cottage!!!

It was also Alayna's birthday party that day, so my Mom's side of the family was all up north celebrating with us. We all got to go swimming off the end of the pier and jump off the raft. The kids absolutely LOVED it!

Calvin says swimming in Emerald Lake is his favorite thing in the whole world! That made this major purchase so worth it!

My sister, and my cousins Zach and Roz all thought we should dive in together.

That night we got to sleep there for the first time. My sister stayed with us and helped me a ton! We cleaned and moved furniture till about midnight! Thanks sis! Here is the fruits of our labor:

Now we just can't wait to be up there this summer as a family and start really enjoying it! We would love to have visitors too so let us know if you want to come up and stay with us! We will promise you a great time!
I was so excited that my best friend in the world, my BFF, my Bestie - Mona,

was able to fly in for a long weekend and hang out with me at my parents cottage. NO KIDS!!! Thank you to my parents for keeping my kids and Mona's husband Eric for staying home with her boys.

She did get to see my kids briefly while we got them settled in at Nana and Papa's house. And since Mona is Alayna's Godmother, or as Alayna says her "Fairy Godmother" it was nice that she got to see them. And she was able to give Alayna her birthday present in person which was nice too.

After the kids were settled in we headed north to the cottage and some peace and quiet! It was bliss!!! We cooked together and drank wine together.

We just relaxed and laughed and shopped, and talked and talked and talked!

It was such an awesome weekend, and we even got to see a great sunset.

And just so we all know she was really there, we had to put her in the shot!

Thanks for coming Mona! Love you lots and can't wait to be up there with the whole family next time!

Disney Part 9 - Animal Kingdom

This is the final chapter in our Disney series and I know you are all thankful for that! I know I am!!!

On our final day we headed to the Animal Kingdom.

We only had a couple hours since we were flying out that day, but we wanted to hit a couple rides. The first was the safari ride and it was really cool! We saw Rhinos,

Antelope,

and giraffes,

This guy just about kissed Alayna! That is how close he got. Unfortunately I didn't get the picture at the perfect time, but it was still pretty cool.

We also got to see the Lions. It was really hard to take pictures on the bumpy ride, but if you look in the middle of the picture all the way to the right you will see him giving us a ROAR!

After the safari ride we went on the Kali River Rapids ride. It is a big circle thing that goes down a river and of course you have lot of opportunities to get VERY wet. Calvin caught the brunt of the wetness this time, which was perfect since the wetter he gets the better he likes a ride. We actually rode it twice since he liked it so much. Both of my kids were so brave this whole trip and much better behaved then I ever thought they would be. It really was a fun trip for all of us. So glad we made the memories!

THE END

Disney Part 8 - Old Friends

An added bonus of this trip was that we were going to get to see our old friends Russ and Suzanne with their 3 children. They live in Tampa about an hour and a half from Disney World. We met them while we were stationed in Turkey when we were all young and child free and then we were in Virginia together when the kids started to arrive. We used to go to dinner and need a table for 4 and now when we make a dinner reservation there are 9 of us! How did that happen?? Anyways we were so happy they agreed to make the trip to see us. We decided to meet at Downtown Disney and have dinner at the Rain Forest Cafe. We got there first so we passed the time at the Lego Store,

Calvin enjoyed it, but Alayna could have played there all day!

Russ and Suzanne have 3 beautiful children. Alexa is the oldest, Megan in the middle and then baby Zach who is not such a baby any more!

Calvin and Zach played together so nicely.

Megan was a little shy.

And Alexa and Alayna became fast friends. Alexa just joined Daisys (It is part of the girl scouts) and taught Alayna a new song. Here they are performing it:

In case you missed it, the lyrics are:
Make new friends
but keep the old
One is Silver
and the other Gold

And a picture of the guys...

After dinner we walked around a bit and the kids found a place where if they stood there, Stitch from Lilo and Stitch would "spit" on them. They thought it was great fun even though they were already getting wet by the little rain we were getting.

Oh the joy of being a child!
We had such a nice time, it was too short, but we were thankful for the time we had. Thank you so much guys for coming to see us! It was so great to see you again.

Disney Part 7 - The Princesses

Finally it was time for Alayna's favorite part of the trip.......breakfast with the princesses! She got all dressed up in her new Cinderella gown complete with glass slippers.
From 2009-08-06

When we got there, Belle greeted us first for a photo op.
From 2009-08-06

Both kids were in awe because these were the first characters we were meeting that could talk to them! We sat down for our breakfast and then the Princesses came by our table one at a time.
First was Aurora (Sleeping Beauty for those of you without little girls)

Then Cinderella,
From 2009-08-06
This may be my favorite picture from the trip. Alayna was just in love with Cinderella and Cinderella called Alayna "my little twin" and reminded her to be home before midnight. It was too precious.

Then we met Snow White,
From 2009-08-06
and finally Ariel, who was Calvin's Favorite.
From 2009-08-06
They both really enjoyed this breakfast so much. They were so happy!
From 2009-08-06

After breakfast we headed back over to Hollywood Studios to catch the things we missed the first time. Most importantly we wanted to see the live Beauty and the Beast show. I am so glad we went back to see it. Alayna LOVED it!
From 2009-08-06
As you can tell it was SOOOOOO hot and humid, but Alayna was so happy and just couldn't believe what she was seeing. It was totally worth it!

Disney Part 6 - The Storm

So remember how I told you we almost had a perfect day?? Well, here is the rest of the story:

After that fun block party dancing with all the Toy Story characters we went to lunch at the Crystal Palace with Pooh and Friends. We got to meet Pooh,
From 2009-08-06
Tigger,
From 2009-08-06
and Piglet.
From 2009-08-06

It was a great meal, probably the best food we had while we were there.

Then we went back to the hotel for naps, and returned to the Magic Kingdom later in the afternoon. After we rode a few more rides it started to look like rain and since it was getting close to dinner time we decided to just head back to the hotel for dinner. Good plan right?? Yes, it was till Mommy got the bright idea to take the boat back to the hotel since "we weren't in a hurry this time". You all know where this is going now.

We got on the boat and both kids were enjoying the ride. (note the sky in the upper right)

But soon we started to get worried.
From 2009-08-06

Actually we started to get really worried.
From 2009-08-06
This was not just a nice rain shower, this was a full on storm with lightning and thunder that shook your chest. And of course torrential rains!

It was a long ride, but the worst part was that the boat dropped us off a L-O-N-G way from any shelter! We ran full speed (with kids in the stroller) for at least 2 minutes to get to a building. And it had been raining quite a while already so the sidewalks were covered with a couple inches of standing water. Not good when you are wearing your tennis shoes. Needless to say we were completely soaked. Here are the after shots:

Not a perfect day, but sure makes for some good memories!
