The Last Week of School

The kids last day of School was Tuesday June 23rd. Calvin's class had their class party on Sunday with all kinds of good food and fun.

Here he is sitting next to Hadi. Calvin and Hadi have a kind of love/hate relationship and always seem to find trouble when they are together.
From schools out

Thankfully no trouble occurred at the party, and even better they will be in separate classes next year.

But it does appear that Calvin at least contemplated some trouble:

After they ate some yummy food they got to play "pass the parcel".

We made sure to get the obligatory picture of Calvin's teacher this year - Ms Merricks.

It was a nice little party for the kids, Calvin really had a good time.

Then the big day came.....THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!!! I don't know who was happier, me or the kids! I am so glad that alarm clock isn't buzzing at me at 5:15 anymore.
Calvin has grown up so much this school year it is unbelievable. Just look at the difference!

Alayna wanted to get her picture taken too of course so here are the two of them in one of their sweeter moments.

Then after we dropped off Calvin it was off to Happy Chappies for Alayna's last day of school. And now that I wanted to take her picture she was no longer in the mood for it! Go figure. Here is the best I could do to get a picture of her with one of her teachers, Ms Grace.

She has grown a lot too this year, but as you can see, she is still my baby girl.

I just can't believe that next year they will both be in school 5 days a week. I am really going to miss Alayna and my girl time. They grow up so fast.

Happy Birthday Ryan!

Ryan had a birthday last week and I think he had a nice day. He is a real home body, so for his birthday week he wanted to not have to go anywhere. We didn't even go out for dinner we just stayed in and had Steak and King Crab Legs after the kids went to bed. But in the early afternoon we did the whole cake and presents routine. (please ignore pjs....Fridays are pajama days in our house)

He requested "dirt cake" for his birthday cake, so that explains the weird candles is a wood bowl thing.

Each kid made Daddy a special picture and had their own gift to give him.

Alayna's Superman Dance

So as soon as we were done watching Calvin's Assembly we had to rush over to Alayna's school to see her class do their Superman Dance.

She was so excited!

In the song it tells you to do different things like clap your hands...

And Macho Man...

(did you see her teacher in the background with the Superman costume?)

She did a really good job at doing everything and loved that people were watching her.

She is definitely my little performer. I think dance classes will be in our near future.

What a little cutie!

I was able to get a little video on my camera as well. So here it is:

Way to go Alayna! We are so proud of you!

My Hungry Crocodile

This past Thursday was Calvin's class Assembly, and he was a crocodile.
From 2009-06-16

Here he is waiting for everything to begin.
From 2009-06-16

He even had a line to say. "We are now going to sing The Greedy Crocodile."
From 2009-06-16

(Ok, I feel the need to explain his Crocodile snout hanging in his face. I had made it with a string to keep it sitting at the top of his head and the string broke off. The teachers replaced the string with construction paper and taped it on. As you can see this was not a great solution. There, I feel cleansed of that now. The End.)

After his line, two other crocodiles joined him on stage and they sang their song.
From 2009-06-16

But the two best parts of the show were unfortunately not captured on film. The first was when it was the "monkeys" turn to sing. It was a song about monkeys in a tree teasing a crocodile. Calvin was the crocodile they were teasing and one by one he ate the monkeys with a big "SNAP". It was so cute and he had such a big smile on his face the whole time. And after 'eating' each monkey he would rub his tummy in satisfaction. Priceless. Thankfully we got it on video.

The second part we didn't even get on video, but I have to tell you about it. It was the 'flowers' turn to sing and it was a counting song. There were 10 flowers and one by one they were to move to the other side of the stage. Well they were on #7, but #7 and #8 both moved over. Calvin, my rule follower, just couldn't sit still and let this slide. He had to get up take the little boy #8 flower and try and move him back to where he was suppose to be. He was so sweet and didn't push or yell, he just tried to carefully and quietly tell him he wasn't suppose to be over here yet. Everyone laughed! That is my Calvin. I would have probably been more surprised if he hadn't gotten up!

All of the kids did a great job and it was a very entertaining little show. We are so proud of you Calvin!

Summertime Fun at Happy Hour

Now that it about 110* when we are sitting outside for happy hour they have replaced the bouncy castle with a cool water slide.
From 2009-06-16

Calvin LOVES this thing and has been spending over an hour each Thursday night going down it countless times.
From 2009-06-16

He jumps, goes down head first, or backwards on his belly.

Thursday night Happy Hour at the Embassy is by far my families favorite thing to do in Kuwait!

Pool Party Goodbyes

Kuwait is a very transient place and every summer sees the parting of many friends, but fall always brings new faces and new opportunities to meet great people.

My friend Caroline and her family will be leaving this summer to move to the States. Her oldest daughter Sabrina is in Calvin's class and a good friend of his. Caroline decided to have a going away pool party at the pool at the kid's school. The kids had a ball!

Calvin's First Purchase

Calvin has been asking for a "Ben 10 watch" for ages. Ben 10 is a cartoon on Cartoon Network, which we have only seen once. All the boys at school are in to it, so even though he doesn't watch it he thinks it is the coolest thing.

Anyways, he wanted this toy and it was 4KD (about $15). I told him he would have to earn the money to buy it. It took him about 3 weeks to earn his money, and he was so excited when he finally had enough to go buy it. Now part of the deal was he had to buy this completely on his own so he got to pay for it and everything.

Here he is with the toy and money in hand.

Making the big purchase.
From 2009-06-16

Lucky kid even got change back! It was on sale that day!

I am such a mean Mommy I even made him carry his own purchases.
From 2009-06-16

After we did our shopping we went to the food court for some McD's. There was no waiting till we got home to break out his new "Ben 10 watch" he needed it on immediately.
From 2009-06-16

Alayna had earned some money as well, but not nearly as much. This was what she used her money for....

Let's just say they were missing appendages by dinner time. Real quality products you know!
